Cultivating A Cultural Prayer Life

"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." I Timothy 2:1-4

Hello All,

Prayers be made for all men...people! It's never been easier to pray for various celebrities and political figures. I hope that as the media sends more and more prayer cards in the form of internet articles and news coverage, that the people of God rise up and do their part. The culture at large will never join the church, but they will endlessly, sometimes shamefully, present painful details to the world at large. Since we are in the world and not of the world, we can pray.

Most of the time we are shocked, but not moved spiritually. We are amazed, but not impressed to pray. We gawk with no compassion, maybe because we believe that there is no hope for them! Have they sold their souls? Are they outside the grip of God's hand or are we failing to believe that God wants to work the miracle of salvation in their hearts just as He did in ours? Either way, whichever answer you subscribe to, God still calls us to pray.

In praying for all men (people), we join into God's heart for them, namely that they will be saved, recognizing Him as the Savior. Praying also defeats the tendency to criticize and gossip and reminds us that the superstars that the world exploits are the souls that the Lord longs to reveal Himself to.

Praying is the first step. From there, who knows what vision we will have for the world at large! Who knows what will be birthed in our hearts from the Lord! All we have to do is take the Lord at His word and pray! Our prayers don't have to be long and ornate. Simply, God, reveal yourself to ________ and save their lives and their hearts from the destiny that they would choose apart from you.

Blessings... To Our Friends,
Frank Sanchez
